Can You Use Both Ovens on a Double Oven at the Same Time?

Yes, you can use both ovens on a double oven at once. In fact, that is what makes double ovens fantastic tools in the kitchen.

The first time I used my double oven in this way was likely the time when everyone does: Christmas dinner.

The first year I was in charge of Christmas dinner, I planned out everything, made a list of timings and when things should go in the oven. I was sorted until I realised that the pigs in blankets needed to be cooked at a different temperature to the turkey, stuffing and roast veg.

After several minutes of Googling and panic, I turned to my dad. He had very recently passed the mantel of Christmas dinner cooker on to me—thanks dad!

He very calmly told me about this magical box, just above the main oven, that up until this point in my life, I had used to make cheese on toast.

This magical box was, of course, the second oven. I turned the control knob to the temperature settings I needed, and, to my surprise, this was indeed an oven and not just a place where cheese goes to get melty and beautifully gooey.

Christmas dinner was saved, my dad was pleased that he no longer had the stress of cooking the most vital meal of the year, and I gained some knowledge that I knew deep down inside, I could one day impart to others on the internet.

In short, yes, you can use both ovens at once, and I would encourage you to do so whenever you are cooking things at different temperatures. Sure, that top oven makes some mighty fine cheese on toast, but its uses are really endless.
